We have created a unique, multi-disciplinary approach to thought processes, language, mathematics and visualization. Our team includes finance professionals, lawyers, mathematicians, executives, authors, computer scientists and a nuclear physicist. This enables us to synthesize the best QL+QT practices from multiple professions, including finance, mathematics, law, psychology, literature and computer science.

Co-Founders

William P. Stahl, CEO & Co-Founder, is the inventor of ThinkSHEET™.  Mr. Stahl’s combined experience in law and finance gave him the insight to combine the logic and language of law with the data and numbers of finance into a system that merges the two into a unified set of best practices for all professions.  His expertise includes finance, law, real estate development, privatization and software programming. Mr. Stahl was a founder of Privatization International, Inc., a D.C.- based company specializing in public/private partnerships, a real estate investment banker with E. F. Hutton in New York, and a partner in Deutsch, Kerrigan, and Stiles, a New Orleans law firm. Mr. Stahl has co-authored two articles on artificial intelligence with Dr. Freedman. Mr. Stahl has a B.A. from Dartmouth College and an L.L.B. from Tulane School of Law.

Dr. Roy Freedman, Chief Scientist & Co-Founder, advises our developers and clients with respect to the best ways to quantify their thought processes. He is a leader in advanced technology in the capital market and was the principal architect of the Market Surveillance System for the New York Stock Exchange, the head of the Artificial Intelligence Group at Hazeltine, a US defense contractor, and a consultant to Sun Microsystems in the adaptation of its Java software for Wall Street applications.

Dr. Freedman is the primary editor of “Artificial Intelligence In The Capital Markets: State-Of-The Art Appplications For Institutional Investors, Bankers & Traders” and the author of “An Introduction To Financial Technology”, a comprehensive history of the development of financial technology.

Energy & Enterprise Software Development Partner

We have partnered with Energeia LLC, a London-based commodities trading and enterprise software development company, to co-develop our TST Energy Systems product, including applications for: (1) Energeia to trade, (2) licensing to third parties on our Microsoft Office platform, and (3) licensing to Bloomberg subscribers on the Bloomberg App Store.  Energeia will contribute its trading expertise and lead the technical development of the TST Energy products. We expect the partnership to soon extend to our non-energy TST products.

Dr. R. Timothy McGarvey, Principal, founded and manages trading system development and deployment at Energeia. He has over 15 years of experience in energy, commodity markets, and software development. He was a nuclear power engineer with the US Navy, managing the nuclear operations of a nuclear sup for 4 years; a natural gas and electricity trader at EGL-UK (the UK office of a Swiss Energy company); and a mortgage portfolio director at Lehman Brothers. He earned a BS in Engineering at the US Naval Academy, a PhD in Physics at the California Institute of Technology, and a Masters in Human Psychology and Philosophy of Mind at the University of Toronto.

Jamie Townsend, Head Of Equties Sales, has spent over 35 years creating and marketing high quality differentiated institutional equity research. During this time he was CEO of SoundView Technology Group, Director of Research and Head of Sales at C. E. Unterberg, and Director of Research at Advest Inc. Over the last ten years, he has run TownHall Investment Research, an independent equity research firm integrating industrial research with his own.

Dr. Steven J. Schwager, Chief Analytics & Information Officer, heads our analytics and information group—with special emphasis on the optimization of statistical analysis and professional judgments. Dr. Schwager is a Professor Emeritus of Statistics and Biological Statistics at Cornell University. He recently worked as a Senior Statistician in the Science Team at AIG, with a focus on predictive analytics. His academic research and consulting have addressed applied and theoretical problems in a wide variety of areas, including statistical modeling, multivariate analysis, and experiment design. He holds an A.B. in Mathematics from Dartmouth College, an M.A. in Mathematics from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in Statistics from Yale University.

David Stanley, General Counsel, has over 20 years of experience as the general counsel of public and private companies in the fields of software, telecommunications, and finance. He was general counsel of two public companies, Informix Software and Avant!, from 1988 to 1999. He is a board member of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Silicon Valley and the Association of Corporate Growth in Silicon Valley. He has an AB from Dartmouth College and a JD from San Francisco Law School.

David J. Hudson, Chief Operating Officer, is involved in all aspects of our business, including corporate strategy, general management, corporate communications, product development, and management of our offshore development team. Mr. Hudson is a serial-entrepreneur and marketing professional with a deep information technology background. His past ventures include New Venture Advisors, a consulting firm he co-founded which provides strategy and marketing services to start-ups. Mr. Hudson has an A.B. from Dartmouth College with a major in computer science.

Kunyi Li, Director of Development, is head of technical development, primarily web development. He was previously an investment analyst for The Alaska Permanent Fund. He developed and maintained credit analysis for issuers in auto and retail industry; he also created Excel-based economics and performance dashboard for the CIO. He has an A.B. from Dartmouth College with a major in economics and mathematics and is fluent in French and Chinese.

Energeia Team Members

Dr. Sanatan Rai, Chief Quantitative Architect, has 15 years of experience in enterprise-scale software development. He has held positions as a Senior Quantitative Analyst at Millennium Capital, BlueCrest Capital Management, and Lehman Brothers. He earned a BTech in Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, an MS in Management Science at Case Western Reserve, and a PhD in Management Science and Engineering at Stanford University.

Dr. Guy Bormann, Head of Quantitative Development, has 10 years of experience in enterprise-level software development. He has held positions as a quantitative developer and researcher at Barclays Capital, Deutsche Bank, and BNP Paribas Fortis. He earned a BS in Physics from the University of Hasselt and an MS and a PhD in Physics from the University of Antwerp.

TST Advisors

Bruce R. Fador is the CEO of Wall Street Horizons, a provider of data services for institutional investors. He is the former CEO of Thomson Reuters First Call and several other financial information companies. He is a graduate of Boston College with a degree in political science and he also attended INSEAD’s executive programs.

Charles Woodworth is the Managing General Partner of SCG Madison Co. LLC, an investment advisory firm. He was a senior vice president at both Banc of America Securities and Kidder Peabody where he was also the Group Leader in the Private Client Division. Mr. Woodworth is a graduate of Dartmouth College.

E. Coe Kerr, III is a co-founder of the Upland Group, a Portfolio Management Group at Morgan Stanley. He was formerly a senior managing director and CEO of Carret Asset Management, a portfolio manager at H.G. Wellington and a director of research at Tucker Anthony. Mr. Kerr is a graduate of Boston University.

William T. Nolan is the founder of Devonshire Holdings, Inc., a corporate financial advisory company. He is a seasoned investment banker and CEO whose career spans a 35-year period in corporate finance, capital markets, and restructurings. He is the author of The Wealth of Enterprises: A New Foundation for Economics & Management. He has a B.A. from Tulane University and an M.B.A from Harvard Business School.

Henri Kalajian advises us on the development of our Workflow Apps. He has held senior positions managing workflow applications for Thomson Reuters, BlackRock, and JP Morgan Chase. At Thomson Reuters, he led a team that developed a presentation software suite solution for Investment Banking Deal Making. The suite integrates seamlessly within Microsoft Office, allowing consistent brand “look & feel” while enhancing productivity. At BlackRock, he helped build out the Corporate Intranet to support eighteen lines of business across the firm. He has an MS in Computer Science/Mathematics from Pace University and an MS in Technology Management from Stevens Institute of Technology.

Scott Sorensen is responsible for creating our relationship with Bloomberg. He is currently an account executive at Quantcast, a digital advertising company that is a pioneer in audience measurement and real-time advertising. He was formerly an account executive at Bloomberg, utilizing a comprehensive knowledge of financial markets and the Bloomberg Professional Service platform and Excel API functionality, to help Bloomberg customers leverage its advanced applications and analytics. He has a BA from Dartmouth College.
